Kalli

Kalli currently studies at the Indiana University South Bend. She spent the summer with Miler Poultry exploring each department, spending 3 weeks with the broiler department, 2 weeks in breeders, and 1 week in the hatchery, both feed mills, animal welfare, the processing plant, the office, and sales & marketing. Kalli is no stranger to the world of agriculture, she was a 10-year member in the Elkhart County 4-H Poultry Club, and her grandpa has been a feed truck driver at Miller Poultry for many, many years.

During her time with the New Paris feed mill, she even had the opportunity to ride along with him for 3 days, which was one of the highlights of her summer! She thoroughly enjoyed her time with Miller Poultry, especially the hands-on experience in the Broiler department.

“Miller Poultry provided opportunities for me that I never thought were possible. Through my internship, I was able to explore each department in the company. I enjoyed each person I interacted with, they really know how to make you feel comfortable and that you are welcome! It also gave me the opportunity to spend quality time with my grandpa, and see what he has done every day for the last 20 years. I can see for myself why he has stayed with this company for so long. This internship actually has made me reconsider my career path. It would be an honor to possibly end up working for this company one day! I strongly recommend an internship here at Miller Poultry.”

Caleb

Caleb studies accounting at Goshen college in Goshen, Indiana. Caleb participated in Miller Poultry’s “micro” internship during winter break in December. During his time at Miller, Caleb worked with 4 other interns to launch an employee survey throughout the company. At the conclusion of his internship, Caleb and his peers presented the final survey results to the senior team and made recommendations to improve employee moral.

“My experience working with Miller Poultry was overwhelmingly positive. The employees there are kind, talented, and wanted to see us and the company succeed. They cared about who we, the interns, were as people, asking about our studies and passions and even finding ways to connect that directly to our internship work. I’m an accounting major, and Clayton Miller worked to set up a couple of days for me to sit with an accountant, which was really valuable to see how that part of the business works. The internship itself was structured very well, and I felt that after two weeks of tours and countless questions answered by Miller Poultry staff, I had a much better grasp on their company and the poultry industry writ large. For me, this was a great way to learn about a new industry, boost my resume, and get to work with some of the best in the business when it comes to humane, ethical, and sustainable poultry production.”

Michelle

Michelle is a student at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. During her time interning with the marketing and HR departments at Miller Poultry, she was tasked with planning social media posts, designing internal newsletters and signs, collecting content for a food safety internal video, translating to Spanish during new employee orientation, engaging in internal customer service both in English and Spanish, and promoting Miller Poultry at the three rivers festival.

“My goals for this internship were to gain more knowledge and experience in marketing, learn more about the poultry industry, practice Spanish in a professional setting, get exposure to different business departments, and improve my communication skills. This internship had great contributions to my personal growth and goals. I got hands-on experience in planning marketing strategies for social media, leading projects, communicating effectively across departments, and supporting the HR department both in English and Spanish. The greatest part of this internship was being able to shadow different departments such as the sales, accounting, HR, and hatchery teams to learn more about what they do and how they work together. It also allowed to me see the whole process that Miller poultry engages in from family farm to family table.”
